What is PLC?
In this article we going to investigate the PLC with an application. This application example was made it in Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey as a course project. Firstly, a programmable logic controller (PLC) is a specialized computer used to control machines and process.PLC uses a programmable memory to store instructions and specific functions that include On/Off control, timing, counting, sequencing, arithmetic, and data handling.

Advantages of PLC Control Systems
- Flexible
- Faster response time
- Less and simpler wiring
- Solid state, no moving parts
- Modular design, easy to repair and expand
- Less expensive
- Suitable for automation
In this article, we tried to explain via a PLC application ‘What is PLC?’ ‘How to use it?’.
PROJECT DEFINITION
Problem 1:
A beamer needs cooling for the light source, which generates heat. When switching the beamer off, cooling should continue for 1 minute. The beamer should have two push buttons, A1 to switch the beamer on, A2 to switch it off. The light is controlled by output B1, the cooling fan is controlled with output B2. Additionally, there should be two indicator lights C1 and C2. C1 should indicate the beamer is on, while C2 should indicate the cooling fan is still running after switching the beamer off.
Program this example using ladder logic in FPW in Pro Software. You can use any block available in the standart program libraries, such as TOF, TON, RS-Flip-Flop (Bi-Stable Gates).
Problem 2:
Same as Problem 1, but use Function Block Diagram (FBD).
